Hey guys, some of my Tomb Raider stuff has gotten a little attention lately, haha, so I decided to upload a couple of pictures from my Tomb Raider cosplay I did last year for Animethon in Edmonton.
So ever since I was little, I'd always wanted to dress up as Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series. It's actually part of the reason I started growing my hair long! Well, last summer I finally decided that I was sick of my long hair and since I was also going to attend Animethon, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to finally do it.
I dressed up as specifically Lara Croft from Tomb Raider 2, my favourite game in the series. My outfit was taken both from in-game screen shots and the cover art (which do actually differ slightly, so I had to make some decision on what to keep and what to leave out). I also was aiming for a middle ground between the colours on the cover and in-game which again, are actually different (the cover is more turquoise while the in-game outfit is actually more blue).
You may notice that I said "aiming". That's because FUCK DYING FABRICS FFFFFFFFFFFFF. UGGGH one of the most horrible experiences of my LIFE! I had to mix dyes to try to get the right colour for the leotard, which didn't even come out right (in yellow light the leotard actually looks purple haha) and the shorts, as you can see in the picture, BARELY took the brown they were dyed in and by the time I realized they were drying too light, it was too late >.<. gaaaaah it was such a HORRID experience and it looks like I might have to repeat it with my Fluttershy cosplay I'm doing this year for 'thon *cries*.
So ANYWAYS, haha, basically I have my hair in a braid with 2 yellow hair elastics, one at the start and end of the braid, a backpack, leotard, gloves, belt with metal buckle and gun holsters, plastic toy guns, shorts, socks, and the boots, with Makeup to math her as best as I could. The backpack, belt/holster situation and shorts were made custom for me by my lovely and supportive grandmother! No matter how anal I was about getting every last detail, she always obliged!
I also made the buckle out of a piece of metal which was painted with glass paint.
Sorry about the quality of the picture, we only had the camera on Maddy's video camera, which took good photos outside, but not inside. I have another that I took before going to the convention that I will post as well. I also unfortunately was never able to take any cool action shots, and I cut all of my hair off a couple weeks after the convention, so I'd have to get a wig to wear the costume again! There were also lots of photos that I found that others had taken of me which were of better quality, but they are not mine, so I'd feel bad using them.
Well, we had tons of fun and lots of people recognized me! There was even one guy that told me he wanted to take a picture of me to win a bet with his friend that "kids" nowadays don't even know what Tomb Raider is! I can't wait to go again this year!
